I’m a book-writing, selfie-taking, latte-drinking, social media gal. I’m living a good life on the road as a full-fledged Bedouin (Well, except, my tent is actually a fully-equipped RV.) Me and my partner-in-crime (Benj) tend to hunker down wherever the skies are clear and the temps stay in the 70’s. We call ourselves Gypsy Nerds because we aimlessly wander the U.S. with glasses perched upon our noses and faces jammed into computer screens (for the first half the day... The second half of the day is typically devoted to playing because we’re also somewhat immature.)

Like most authors, the characters I create are my extended family. And like most readers, when the story ends, I get a little sad. In real life, I have two handsome, hardworking, grown-up boys who know how to make their Mama proud! *Waves to Joey and Mike!*

The Ascension Series is my debut into the world of YA fiction.

Thoughts: This book is a novella so it was a very short read but even with the shortness of the book the message was clear. I loved the ghosts in the story, they were quite funny and I like how they told their stories of how they came to be the ghosts that haunt the old Hanging Tree. I enjoyed the ending more than I thought I would because of how short it is I was worried that it would leave questions unanswered but it answered them all beautifully!  I must give props to Michael Phillip Cash for writing such a short but epicly beautiful story!

Together, they must overcome fanatical armies, murderous sorcerers, and powerful supernatural foes.

Alone, Harric must face the temptation of forbidden magic that could break his curse, but cost him the only woman he’s ever loved.

The first volume in Stephen Merlino's 'The Unseen Moon' series, "The Jack of Souls" is a terrific read from beginning to end and clearly establishes Merlino as a master of the fantasy action/adventure genre. Highly recommended for community library Science Fiction & Fantasy collections…” - Midwest Book Review

Author Bio: Stephen Merlino lives in Seattle, WA, where he writes, plays, and teaches high school English. He lives with the world's most talented and desirable woman, two fabulous children, and three attack chickens.

Growing up in Seattle drove Stephen indoors for eight months of the year. Before the age of video games, that meant he read a lot. At the age of eleven he discovered the stories of J.R.R. Tolkein and fell in love with fantasy.

Summers and rare sunny days he spent with friends in wooded ravines or on the beaches of Puget Sound, building worlds in the sand, and fighting orcs and wizards with driftwood swords.

About the time a fifth reading of The Lord of the Rings failed to deliver the old magic, Stephen attended the University of Washington and fell in love with Chaucer and Shakespeare and all things English.

Sadly, the closest he got to England back then was The Unicorn Pub on University Way, which wasn't even run by an Englishman: it was run by a Scot named Angus. Still, he studied there, and as he sampled Angus's weird ales, and devoured the Unicorn's steak & kidney pie (with real offal!), he developed a passion for Scotland, too.

In college, he fell in love with writing, and when a kindly professor said of a story he'd written, "You should get that published!" Stephen took the encouragement literally, and spent the next years trying. The story remains unpublished, but the quest to develop it introduced Stephen to the world of agents (the story ultimately had two), and taught him much of craft and the value of what Jay Lake would call, "psychotic persistence."

Add to that his abiding love of nerds--those who, as Sarah Vowel defines it, "go too far and care too much about a subject"--and you have Stephen Merlino in a nutshell.

Stephen is the 2014 PNWA winner for Fantasy.

He is also the 2014 SWW winner for Fantasy. His novel, The Jack of Souls is in its fourth month in the top ten on Amazon’s Children’s Fantasy Sword & Sorcery Best Seller list, and among the top three in Coming-of-Age.

With the war between Alana planet and the Moon that Marko's people are from the relationship between the two is forbidden and so they are now on the run but they wouldn't have made it far without the help of some other cleaver supporting characters.

Rating:

Thoughts: I love this series and I flew through it rather quickly. I got them from the library because I wasn't sure if I would like them as much as others have but I was wrong and now every volume that is out is now in my Amazon wishlist so I can own my own copies some day. I liked the story development and quickly learned the run of things as far as the war and such. The characters were very likeable even the villains. The art was also some of the best I have seen in a graphic novel and it was very appealing to the eye. Don't be turned off by the forbidden love, this is anything but your normal love story and it's full of action sure to capture the hearts of anyone who reads them!

WARNING: This graphic novel series is for adults and might not be suitable for younger people!
